Three police officers have been put under investigation by prosecutors in Ravenna in relation to an incident linked to League leader and former interior minister Matteo Salvini getting an officer to give his son a ride on one of the force's personal watercrafts (PWC) earlier in the summer.
The incident took place at the Milano Marittima resort on the Adriatic on July 30.
The three officers were formally identified following a request from the interior ministry in relation to an ensuring episode in which a reporter from daily newspaper La Repubblica tried to film the ride.
The journalist said he was confronted by men who said they were cops and tried to stop him.
Salvini, who subsequently pulled the plug on the government he was part of at the time, has admitted making a "mistake" in asking the officer for the ride and sparking controversy about his use of State resources.
The three police officers, who were part of Salvini's security detail, were questioned by prosecutors in the presence of their lawyers on Wednesday, sources said.
