The United Nations must be
strengthened to fend off a resurgence of vetero-natonalism,
President Sergio Mattarella told the General Assembly Tuesday.
"Vetero-nationalist impulses, neo-imperialist if not
neo-colonialist impulses, competition between powers instead of
cooperation, re-propose a polarisation of the international
system that harms the freedom and equality of relations between
states and peoples and jeopardises peace," he said.
"It is more important than ever, then, to strengthen
multilateral institutions, starting with the United Nations".
