Prosecutors in Santa Maria Capua
Vetere near Caserta have ordered the seizure of a small village
of 43 holiday homes in nearby Castel Volturno which were
illegally built by members of the Belforte clan of the local
organized-crime syndicate, investigative sources said on
Tuesday.
The State attorneys ordered the preventive seizure of 43 homes
built in Bagnara, Castel Volturno, seven of which were used by
close relatives of the clan's two founders and leaders,
Salvatore and Domenico Belforte, who have been held in prison
for years.
Overall, 65 people were identified and evicted from the 43 small
villas by Carabinieri police and coast guards from Pozzuoli.
The 43 homes date back to the 1980s and are located in a
coastal area where building is illegal.
Nobody over the years denounced the presence of the illegal
constructions, including local authorities, investigators said.
