The Food for Gaza initiative Italy has
spearheaded to get food aid to Palestinian civilians is opening
a new phase of cooperation in healthcare and will be taking 14
paediatric cancer patients from the Gaza Strip to medical
facilities in the Italian regions of Piedmont, Lazio and
Lombardy, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani
said Thursday.
Tajani spoke to reporters on a flight taking him and University
and Research Minister Anna Maria Bernini to Israel.
In future, other Italian medical facilities will be involved in
the project "because the objective is to further increase the
number of these children", he said.
The children, who will be evacuated with family members for a
total of 42 people, will be taken from the Gaza Strip to Cairo
on February 15-16 and subsequently to Italy.
Four children will be treated in Milan, two in Monza and eight
in Turin and Milan, respectively at the Regina Margherita and
Umberto I hospitals.
