Japanese giant Hitachi has made
a binding offer for Finmeccanica's AnsaldoBreda train-making
unit in a deal that may be worth a reported 1.4 billion euros,
ANSA sources said. Several companies were bidding for
AnsaldoBreda, which State-controlled Finmeccanica wants to sell
to focus on its core defence and aerospace production units.
Hitachi is one of two finalists for the passenger train
division.
