The Milan stock exchange
bounced back in early trading on Friday, regaining some of
Thursday's big losses.
The benchmark FTSE Mib index, which shed 3.49% on
Thursday, climbed 2.2% to reach 18,590 points.
The gains were spearheaded by bank stocks, which took much
of the pounding earlier in the week.
Troubled lender Monte dei Paschi di Siena was up 8.17%
after it presented financial results showing a return to profit
after five years on Thursday.
Banco Popolare and BPM, which are poised for a merger,
were up 2.65% and 2.88% respectively.
