The Senate's budget committee on
Tuesday approved an amendment to the government's fiscal decree
that forces telecommunications and pay-TV providers to return to
monthly billing.
The move comes after many companies in these sectors started
to charge clients every 28 days, a move seen as a way to raise
prices by stealth.
Companies that fail to comply will have to pay 50 euros to
clients, plus one euro a day for each that passes after the
deadline set by telecommunications authority AGCOM.
The amendment also doubles the fines the companies can be
hit with, taking them up to a maximum of five million euros.
