Italy has the oldest
population in the European Union after Germany with an average
age of 44.7 compared to Germans' average age of 45.6 while the
youngest countries are Ireland (average age 36), Cyprus (average
age 36.8) and Slovakia (average age 38.6), Eurostat said Friday.
The average age in the EU is 42.2, while Italy has 'aged' by
6.5 years over the past 20 years.
In 1994 the average age of Italian people was just 38.2
years.
The EU as a whole has more or less 'aged' at the same rate
as Italy, the poll said.
