A 15-year-old student has
had surgery in hospital and is in non-life-threatening condition
after being stabbed in the neck and abdomen by a fellow pupil
during a row at Salerno's Genovesi-da Vinci high school.
The 16-year-old aggressor, from the town of Pontecagnano
Faiano, threw the small knife he used to stab the victim in a
school corridor from a window, but it was recovered by police,
sources said.
He was later arrested for attempted murder.
The incident was sparked by a row over an umbrella, the
sources said.
Police said the pair scuffled before the aggressor stabbed
the victim near his jugular vein.
He was urgently operated on and is set to have a CAT scan
that should give an accurate picture of his condition Tuesday.
The aggressor was said to come from a "difficult" family
background and his father was arrested a week ago on drugs
charges.
The head of the school, Nicola Annunziata, said "you can't
talk about bullying but about a full-blown criminal act.
"The school will obviously take measures," he said.
"It isn't a school matter but a fully fledged crime".
