Some 8.6 million Italians are at-risk
consumers of alcohol, a new reports said Tuesday.
Some 68,000 alcohol dependent people have been taken into
treatment, said the report from the Higher Health Institute
(ISS).
Some 4,575 road accidents are caused by alcohol each year,
the ISS said.
The most at-risk individuals are young people between the
ages of 16 and 17 and the so-called 'elderly-young', or people
between 65 and 75, it said.
Binge drinking, once taboo in Italy, has been steadily rising
among Italian youths over the last two decades.
