A Florence court on Wednesday handed
down sentences of three years, two months and 15 days for
Tiziano Renzi and Laura Bovoli, the parents of ex-premier,
former centre-left Democratic Party (PD) leader and now head of
the centrist Italia Viva (IV) party, Matteo Renzi, in a false
invoices case.
The court also acquitted Renzi and Bovoli of fraudulent
brankruptcy charges for the cooperatives Delivery Service Italia
and Europe Service.
The ex-premier's sister, Matilde Renzi, was also acquitted in
the trial that stemmed from the bankruptcy of commercial service
cooperatives Marmodiv, Delivery Service and Europe Service,
connected to Eventi 6 Srl owned by Renzi's parents.
The couple was accused of using the cooperatives, of which they
were allegedly de facto administrators, to boost the turnover of
the family company, the Eventi 6, subsequently leading them to
bankruptcy and omitting to pay taxes - charges denied by the
couple.
