The President of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) Noemi Di Segni on Friday said Italy's Jews were conscious of the "critical nature" of ongoing events after the IDF hit UNIFIL bases in southern Lebanon and expressed support for the Italian mission and all UNIFIL soldiers in a letter sent to Premier Giorgia Meloni, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Defence Minister Guido Crosetto.
"We are experiencing hours of grave tension for what happened with the attacks of the Israeli army against UNIFIL outposts, in a situation on the ground that is extremely complex and dangerous for everybody", wrote Di Segni.
"We are fully aware of the critical nature of the ongoing situation, including on a political level, of these episodes which, we have learned, are being subjected to a careful investigation by all the appropriate" institutions, said the letter sent by UCEI.
Di Segni expressed, as "a Jewish voice here in Italy, our closeness to the Italian mission and to all UNIFIL soldiers who are present in the conflict zone with the spirit of service, hoping for their safety".
"Grateful to the Italian government for all the commitment dedicated to security, here in our cities, in Lebanon during these difficult weeks and in any other location and outpost.
Di Segni expressed "absolute closeness to the Italian mission" and appreciation for security forces, as well as the Italian government, and "concern, along with all Italians, for the ongoing critical situation" under investigation.
