President Sergio Mattarella on
Thursday said the Italian Constitution is 'anti-Fascist',
addressing Legacoop's Biennial of cooperative economy event in
Bologna.
Mattarella highlighted that the Charter has, "strongly
impressed, four characters": it is centred on labour, the
person, local autonomies with the "responsibility of providing
answers to citizens" and it is anti-Fascist and thus "founded on
the fight for Liberation, the origin of freedom and democracy",
he noted.
Mattarella also expressed solidarity to the city hosting the
event, which was hit by a deadly flood over the weekend and to
the families of the two victims and the wounded following an
explosion reported Wednesday at a warehouse of 'Toyota Material
Handling', a multinational that deals with goods handling in
Borgo Panigale, near Bologna, in what the president described as
"the umpteenth workplace tragedy".
"There are no more adequate words to express alarm and anguish",
the president said.
