A ticket inspector was attacked on a
train connecting Milan to Mortara after she asked a passenger to
extinguish his cigarette, investigative sources said Saturday.
The inspector, a 48-year-old woman, on Friday night was slapped
in the face by the young passenger, described as being of
African origin, who fled when the train reached the station of
Mortara near Pavia.
Carabinieri police at the station of Mortara were unable to
track down the man.
An eight-hour strike of railway workers was held across Italy on
Tuesday after a ticket inspector working on a regional train was
stabbed near the Liguria station of Rivarolo.
The strike was organized to demand more security on the job
after "a long series of attacks" over the past few months
against railway personnel by labour unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl,
Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Fast Confsal and Orsa Trasporti.
