Carlo Conti has announced
that he will present Italy's popular Sanremo Music Festival
again next year after the 2016 event proved to be a big hit.
It will be the third consecutive time Conti, a quiz-show
host for State broadcaster RAI, presents the festival after he
also successfully took the helm last year.
This year the festival captured around half of the TV
audience share on each of its five nights, including Saturday,
when it was up against the top-of-the-table Serie A clash
between Juventus and Napoli.
"Being as everything went well, we'll try and do a third
festival," Conti told reporters.
"Third time lucky".
The 2016 festival culminated with a surprise victory for
veteran band Stadio with the song Un Giorno mi Dirai (One Day
You'll Tell Me).
Runner-up Francesca Michielin, 20, will represent Italy at
the next Eurovision Song Contest with her song, Nessun Grado di
Separazione (No degree of separation), after Stadio gave up the
right to do so.
