A life-size copy of
Michelangelo's David in Carrara marble painted in black and
lying down was unveiled Friday in Florence's central Piazza
della Repubblica to symbolize the suffering caused by terror and
violence worldwide.
Florence Mayor Dario Nardella and a representative of the
local French community, Gaelle Barrè, attended the unveiling of
the statue, called Noi ('Us' in Italian) in the aftermath of the
Bastille Day terror attack in Nice that killed at least 84
people.
Noi will remain on display until July 21, to coincide with
Michelangelo Week concerts and exhibitions dedicated to the
artist.
