The International Society of
Hypertension (ISH) conferred its Gold Award for best clinical
study to Italian researchers who showed eating Grana Padano PDO
cheese on a regular basis helps brings blood pressure down in
subjects with hypertension.
The award was handed out at an ISH congress on September 29
in the city of Seul, South Korea.
The two-month double-blind randomized placebo study of 30
patients conducted by teams from Guglielmo da Saliceto Hospital
and from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in the Italian
city of Piacenza was chosen from among 2,000 contenders.
ISH is an official partner of the World Health Organization
(WHO) and of the World Hypertension League.
If left untreated, hypertension or high blood pressure can
lead to hardening of the arteries, heart attacks, strokes, and
kidney damage.
