Women are decisive with their 'ideas and energies' in giving life to innovative business projects and how to guarantee and foster their fundamental contribution to economic development in Italy and Spain: these were the topics at the centre of the meeting 'Innovation: a feminine singular noun', organised by the Cotec Foundation Italy and the Italian Embassy in Madrid, which hosted the event.
Conceived within the framework of the Cotec Foundation's project 'Mind The Gap - From She-Cession to She-Discovery', the meeting allowed for a discussion between different female specialists in the topics analysed. Among them was Caterina Meglio, ceo of Materias and advisor in Cotec Italy, who gave the presentation 'Female-led start-ups in Italy'. "Spain is a country to watch carefully, with which to work together to acquire those 'best practices' linked to a legislative approach that is a little different from the Italian one, which still has to make some steps, although in terms of higher education and research we are in an advantageous situation," she argued. María Carmen Jambrino Maldonado, professor at the University of Malaga, on the other hand, illustrated "the profile of start-ups led by women in Spain.
Next, there was a discussion between female entrepreneurs with key roles in the development of different business projects: Francesca Gabetti (founder of TeamEQ), Costanza Pinto (co-founder of Orygen), Carolina Guthmann (ceo of Manima World) and Juani Cánovas Gómez (freelance photographer). A dialogue moderated by Professor Marco Giarratana of the Ie University of Madrid, which highlighted direct experiences lived by the participants.
The meeting was held in the presence of the Italian ambassador to Spain, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, and the president of Cotec Italia, Luigi Nicolais. Introducing the meeting, the former argued that 'the contribution of women's ideas and energy, hitherto not adequately represented, is an essential guarantee of innovation in the management of companies', also recalling that in recent months the embassy has already hosted events focusing on the role of girls and women in the scientific field, organised, like last night's, by the embassy's scientific attaché, Sergio Scopetta. Nicolais, on the other hand, focused his speech on the changes 'in mentality' and at organisational level brought about by the 'digital transition' and on how the focus on 'sustainability' is also at the heart of industrial processes, although without specific references to the role of women in these areas.
