Sabrina Ugolini is the new Italian Ambassador in Kabul, but will temporarily operate from Doha. Born in Rome in 1968, she graduated with honours in Political Science (specialising in international affairs) from 'La Sapienza' University in Rome in 1992. Following a competitive examination, on 30 March 1994 she was appointed as a Volunteer in the diplomatic career, with commercial specialisation.
    She began her career at the Ministry at the Directorate General for Economic Affairs, dealing with bilateral relations with African countries.
    Her first assignment abroad was in Tunis, from 1998, as Head of the Consular Chancellery, with responsibility for the migration and social sector and assistance to compatriots. Subsequently, from 2002 to 2006, he was Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy in Brussels, where he worked on the promotion of Sistema Italia in Belgium, coordinating the implementation of cultural activities for the six-month Italian Presidency of the EU Council in 2003.
    In 2006, she returned to Rome and became head of the Social Affairs Office at the Directorate-General for Personnel.
    From 2009 to 2012 he returned to Brussels, serving as Deputy Head of Mission and Political Advisor at the Bilateral Embassy, with responsibility for coordination and reorganisation of the Italian consular network in Belgium.
    At the Ministry, since 2012, she has been Head of the Statistics Office at the General Secretariat and representative of the Farnesina in the National Statistical System, in the context of which she works to strengthen the Ministry's public communication initiatives through data, enhancing the role of gender statistics in dissemination. For a four-year term, from 2013 to 2017, she is also President of the Ministry's Single Guarantee Committee, dealing with equal opportunities, anti-discrimination and work-life balance. In this role, she is also in charge of the Listening Desk against mobbing, harassment and discrimination and, at the same time, she represents Farnesina in the National Equality Committee at the Ministry of Labour.
    Since 2016, she has held the position of Deputy Director General and Central Director for Administration, Information Technology, Communications and Organisational Wellbeing, with responsibility for managing the Ministry's information systems and cybersecurity and coordinating social services policies for staff. Since 2023 she has been at the Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs and, on 20 February 2024, she was appointed President of the Interministerial Committee for Human Rights (Cidu) and Italian National Liaison Officer at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights in Vienna and Representative of Italy in the new European Committee on Democracy at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. As President of Cidu, she oversaw, in particular, the drafting process of the new Women, Peace and Security Action Plan and coordinated national response obligations at the UN Human Rights Council bodies. In 2017, she was appointed Knight Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
