A ceremony at the Museum of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle in Skopje inaugurated the twelfth edition of the International Symposium of Byzantine and Medieval Studies "The Days of Justinian I", organised by the Institute of National History, the University of Sts Cyril and Methodius in Skopje and the University of Bologna, in cooperation with the Faculty of Theology "St Clement of Ohrid" and under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Skopje and the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
    This important scientific forum - reports a note - is traditionally dedicated to the Byzantine historical, cultural and spiritual heritage and has gathered, again this year, over 50 eminent professors, Byzantologists and scientists from over 19 countries, who will present their research on various historical and cultural topics of Byzantine civilisation.
    Opening the conference were Prof. Mitko Panov, President of the Scientific and Organising Committee, Prof. Giuseppe Maino, co-organiser of the University of Bologna, Prof. Dejan Borisov, Dean of the Faculty of Theology 'St. Clement of Ohrid', Dr. Dejan Borisov, Dean of the Faculty of Theology 'St. Clement of Ohrid', Dr. Ilievska, Professor of the University of Bologna, and Dr. Dejan Borisov, Professor of the University of Bologna.ssa Anche Ilievska, Director of the Museum of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle, Dr. Mario De Rosa, Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy in Skopje, Ms. Marija Gjorgova, Undersecretary of State for Culture and Tourism and His Beatitude G.G. Stefan, Archbishop of the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
    In his speech, Mr. De Rosa praised the organising committee and all the participants in the Symposium, who over the years have made a valuable contribution to the development of academic-scientific and cultural cooperation between the countries, creating a creative and research centre for all international scholars who find inspiration in the great Byzantine heritage.
