The 24th edition of the Italian Language Week in Israel, organised by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Institute of Culture, ended in Tel Aviv. The protagonist was writer Eshkol Nevo who, with ambassador Luca Ferrari, met the public in the prestigious Liebling Haus, a cultural landmark in Tel Aviv's Bauhaus district and UNESCO heritage site.
With journalist Fiammetta Martegani, who moderated the meeting, Eshkol Nevo discussed the profound significance and influence of Italian language and culture on his works and on being a writer, which have also led him to publish esteemed editorials in Italian newspapers and to creative writing courses in Turin. Proof and confirmation of this bond, Nevo emphasised, is the success of his books with the Italian public. Especially in this critical moment for Israel, according to the writer, books and artistic works serve to investigate and insist on the shared imagination of a different and possible future.
Ambassador Ferrari emphasised the importance of maintaining a high focus on cultural relations despite the complex moment for Israel and the region: 'Leveraging culture, and the ability to reflect together with authors of Eshkol Nevo's calibre, is increasingly indispensable. It is a fundamental antidote to confront and reject attempts to impose intolerance, even in the form of anti-Semitism'.
