Gabriele Annis took office today as Italian Ambassador to Maputo.
This was announced by the Farnesina. Born in Oristano on 28 July 1969, after graduating in Law at the University of Bologna, he obtained a Master's degree in International Relations at the University of Bristol (UK) in 1997. Following a competitive examination, he was appointed as a Volunteer in the diplomatic career on 30 December 1999. After an initial assignment at the Press and Information Service of the Farnesina, he took up the post of Consul in Belo Horizonte in 2002. In 2006, he was appointed First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in New Delhi. In 2010, he returned to Rome to take up service with the Ministry's Directorate General for Resources and Innovation, in the Unit for Trade Union Relations, Innovation and Simplification.
In 2012, he took up the post of Counsellor for Emigration and Social Affairs at the Embassy in Brasilia. In 2016 he is appointed Ambassador at Assumption.
In 2020 he returns to the Ministry to take up service as Head of the Secretariat of the Under-Secretary of State. In 2021 he takes up his post as Head of the External Relations Office of the Directorate-General for the European Union. From 2022 he serves at Roma Capitale as Director for International Relations.
In 2025 he took up the post of Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique, with accreditation also to the Kingdom of eSwatini, the Republic of Botswana and the Southern African Development Community.
In 2010, he was awarded the Knighthood of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
