Eight non-EU citizens including
a minor were arrested Tuesday for allegedly steering a boat that
sank off Libya at the weekend killing 49 people.
The Italian Navy saved 312 migrants.
Those arrested included four Libyans and three Moroccans
while the minor was Syrian, police said.
They are accused of multiple homicide.
Police said the eight kept migrants down in the hold by
beating them back with punches and kicks.
The 49 died because of a lack of air and fumes from the
engine, police said.
