The deployment of 250 soldiers
in Naples is the "rapid response" by the State to a recent
upsurge in Camorra mafia-related violence, Interior Minister
Angelino Alfano said Monday.
"These back-up units will be a more forceful representation
of the defence of legality that we intend to set against the
episodes of violence and upsurge in criminality and internal
feuds that characterise criminal action right now, by boosting
local security and strengthening citizens' confidence in the
institutions," Alfano said.
The deployment is just one pillar of a complex plan that
also includes better communication between investigative units,
more investigators, more video surveillance and greater
efficiency in emergency call out services.
