Rightwing populist Northern
league leader Matteo Salvini denied a retweet posted from his
Twitter account saying "first shoot the Communist judges" in a
row over a new restrictive self-defence bill.
Salvini said the retweet was posted by a staffer by
mistake.
The bill currently punishes people for shooting people in
self-defence unless they are defending young children in their
homes.
Italy's laws on self-defence are already among the most
restrictive in Europe.
The League has campaigned to loosen them, saying
self-defence is always legitimate.
