The failure of Genoa lender
Carige was bound up with politics, Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio
said Friday, producing a list of names of local politicians.
"The heinous management was not only due to the incompetence
of management but also to the involvement of politics," he said.
Di Maio cited Alessandro Scajola, brother of scandal-hit ex
minister Claudio; Luca Bonsignore, son of former MEP Giovanni
Marongiù, an underscretary under ex premier Romano Prodi; and
Alberto Repetto, an MP in the now-defunct centre-left Olive Tree
alliance.
Di Maio, who is also industry and labour minister, said that
after its precautionary capitalisation, "with the State's help
Carige will become a bank for citizens".
