Premier Giorgia Meloni on Friday congratulated new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after Labour's landslide victory in Thursday's general election in the UK.
"My congratulations to Keir Starmer on his electoral success," Meloni said on social media.
"The state of relations between Italy and the United Kingdom is excellent and I am sure that we will continue to cultivate a strong, reliable collaborative relationship between our great nations, in the interests of our citizens and in line with common strategic objectives".
Meloni also thanked Starmer's Conservative predecessor "my friend Rishi Sunak for these years of intense cooperation and sincere friendship which have strengthened the ties between our two nations".
