Italian researchers have
discovered prostate cancer biomarkers able to identify patients
with the best prognosis, with important implications for
treatment, it emerged on Thursday.
The study, conducted over four years by the department of
clinical and experimental medicine at Pisa University in
conjunction with several hospital structures, is published in
the magazine Oncotarget.
The researchers applied a new form of results analysis
leading to the identification of a particular genetic profile
associated with greater overall survival," a statement said.
Patients whose prognosis was found to be poor could
consequently benefit from innovative drug therapies from the
outset, while those with a good prognosis "could opt for a less
aggressive form of treatment", the statement said.
