An Italian satellite designed to
provide a "delivery service in space" by taking back shipments
to Earth has been launched overnight from California's military
base of Vandenberg with Space X's Falcon 9, on board American
rideshare mission Transporter-11.
The launch of Iperdrone.0 was also followed by the Italian space
centre 'Luigi Broglio' in Malindi, Kenya.
The satellite has been designed, funded and coordinated by the
Italian Space Agency (ASI) through a group of Italian companies
constituted by Cira, Tyvak International and Kayser Italia.
The satellite is the first of ASI's Iperdrone program and will
have to conduct operations around a virtual point, acquiring
images that show its ability to carry out inspections and
conduct a preparatory manoeuvre on its return.
