Italian Alpine skier Elena
Fanchini announced via social media on Friday that she was
retiring from competition after breaking her leg in training on
Thursday.
The 33-year-old had recently returned to action after beating
cancer.
Fanchini has two career World Cup wins, both in the downhill,
and took silver at the 2005 world championships in the same
discipline.
Her younger sister Nadia still races for the Italian national
team while her other sister, Sabrina, retired from competition
in 2016.
