Pope Francis has been saddened by
the news of two nuns, one Italian and one South American, who
tied the knot in a hush-hush civil union at Pinerolo near Turin
on September 28, Vatican Deputy Secretary of State Msgr Angelo
Becciu said Friday. "How much sadness on the Pope's face when I
read him the news of the two 'married' nuns!" Becciu tweeted.
Rome daily La Repubblica carried an interview Friday with the
pair, Federica, 44, and Isabel, 40, who said they had fallen in
love while missionaries in Guinea-Bissau and had decided against
the "convenient but false" choice of living together in a
convent, as they said other nuns in love did.
