European Commission President Ursula
von der Leyen on Tuesday reiterated her praise for Giorgia
Meloni saying Italy's rightwing premier had consolidated her
position in the European Union.
Von der Leyen, who is running for a second term, stressed
Meloni's important role in helping launch the new European
Asylum and Migration Pact.
She also repeated that she had "worked together" well with
Meloni.
Von der Leyen recently described Meloni as pro-European and
anti-Putin and said she could see herself continuing to work
with Italy's first woman premier, who leads the European
Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, while cautioning that
she would find it harder to work with other ECR members,
