Countdown to the 56th edition of
Barcolana, kicking off October 4 with more than 300 events,
culminating on Octobrr 13 in the Autumn Cup, this year under the
motto Positive Energies. The event was presented today by the
organizers, the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano with
their partner Generali.
The regatta has already exceeded 1,100 entries. "A great
success," said SVBG President Mitja Gialuz, "in terms of
quantity and quality, because there are entries from all over
the world. Our ticket to race is working well, so there will be
athletes from the United States and Australia as well."
The event starts with the traditional flag raising at the
SVBG headquarters on 4 October. The first weekend sees the
Barcolana involving more than a thousand athletes who will take
to the water throughout the entire region with Barcolana Grado
Sup Experience, Barcolana Beach Sprint in Lignano and Barcolana
Fun throughout the Upper Adriatic, from Salvore to Lignano,
while Trieste will host the competions of the very young sailors
of the Optimist class in the Barcolana Young and open water
swimming enthusiasts in the Barcolana Nuota. Water polo lovers
will compete in front of Piazza Unità in the Barcolana Water
Polo. "Barcolana is increasingly a sea festival, capable of
uniting enthusiasts of many disciplines", observed Gialuz. The
events at sea also include Parasailing, the Barcolana Maxi -
Portopiccolo Trophy and the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup. On
land, there are Barcolana Sea Summit, Barcolana Un Mare di
Racconti and Barcolana Sea Chef. Barcolana Ski Fvg is scheduled
for October 12th, an event created by PromoTurismoFvg to show
the uniqueness of Friuli Venezia Giulia, where you can go from
the mountains to the sea on the same day. Testimonials will be
four former ski champions representing Italy, Austria, Croatia
and Slovenia.
