Greece is bracing for an
uncontrolled migration wave, according to the daily Kathimerini,
which was raised during Wednesday's meeting of the country's
National Security Council (KYSYEA). The discussion focused on
migration issues, the threat of terrorism, and the evacuation of
Greek citizens from Lebanon and Israel.
In light of the escalating crisis, authorities are considering
expanding the capacity of existing refugee facilities, which
currently house approximately 3,000 individuals.
Plans are underway to redirect any new arrivals to mainland
Greece, as the islands are already overcrowded. This situation
is exacerbated by the fact that Lebanon currently hosts
approximately 2.5 million refugees, primarily from Palestine and
Syria, raising concerns about destabilisation if violence
between Israel and Hezbollah escalates further.
