German Chancellor Olaf Scholz
will arrive in Chisinau today, having been invited by Moldovan
President Maia Sandu. The official visit is viewed in Moldova as
"a demonstration of solidarity from the most powerful EU member
state towards the Republic of Moldova," reports Radio Moldova.
Germany, which had previously been hesitant to expand the EU to
include countries such as Moldova and Ukraine, has reconsidered
its position in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according
to local media in Chisinau. Berlin could also have a potential
role in addressing the Transnistrian issue and investing in the
modernization of the National Army.
