"We have had this discussion in
the Conference on the Future of Europe for the past five years,
even before the war. For me, who is from Malta, enlargement is
always a successful project; this year marks the 20th
anniversary. However, the EU must reform itself if it is to
function with 32, 33, or 35 countries - but political will and
courage are required," said Roberta Metsola, president of the
European Parliament, during an interview with Corriere della
sera about EU enlargement, a process that could bring the EU to
35 member states, including Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and the
Western Balkans.
