The Serbian government gave
yesterday the green light to reinstate compulsory military
service, which was abolished in early 2011. In a statement
issued at the end of an extraordinary session also attended by
President Aleksandar Vucic, the executive led by Prime Minister
Milos Vucevic reported the creation of a working group tasked
with examining all measures necessary to ensure the return to
compulsory conscription, the duration of which will be 75 days.
For men, the draft will be mandatory, while for women,
military service, with the same rules and duration, will be
voluntary.
