Marta Kos, Slovenia's candidate
for a position as a commissioner in the European Commission,
will lead the Enlargement portfolio, the European Commission's
president, Ursula von der Leyen, announced today.
Kos will also be in charge of the eastern neighbourhood, as
well as support for Ukraine and candidate countries seeking to
join the EU. When naming Kos, von der Leyen mentioned that the
procedure in Slovenia is not yet complete. She stated that the
government nominated Marta Kos for commissioner, but she has yet
to appear before the relevant parliamentary committee for the
EU, as is required for official candidature. In response to a
press question, von der Leyen expressed confidence that the
Slovenian procedure will be successful.
