Slovenia supports an embargo on
arms sales to Israel. Premier Robert Golob said this today,
while noting that such a measure alone cannot be a solution to
resolve the complex situation in the Middle East. Quoted by the
Sta Golob news agency, in Brussels for the EU-Gulf States
summit, he stressed that Ljubljana believes it is necessary to
take any measure that would facilitate an end to hostilities and
Israel's armed operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. A ban
on arms exports, the premier said, is one of the measures being
discussed at both the EU and UN levels. "We are among the active
supporters of an embargo on arms sales," said Golob, who at the
same time called on the Israeli authorities to end attacks on
Unifil positions in Lebanon.
