Ambra Sabatini, T63 100-metre gold
medallist at Tokyo 2020, and Luca Mazzone, three-time Paralympic
gold medallist in cycling between Rio 2016 and Tokyo, will be
Italy's flag-bearers at the opening ceremony of the 2024
Paralympics on 28 August in Paris, the board of the Italian
Paralympic Committee voted Thursday at the proposal of its
president, Luca Pancalli
"I don't even know where to start," said Sabatini in a video
message, adding: 'This morning I received a phone call that
overwhelmed me with emotion. I will be the flag bearer at the
Paralympics in Paris. Already saying it out loud makes my heart
beat faster, I am so honoured to be able to play this role. It
is a dream I have always had, and to do it this year is a great
honour".
Mazzone said: "It is an honour that I would never have thought
of and that repays me for so many years of sporting activity.
"I hope that my story will be an example for many young people".
