(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 20 - A weather front from central Europe
has brought cold air and strong, gale-force winds to much of
Italy Wedneday, with a sharp drop in temperatures and strong
storm surges on the most exposed coasts.
The Civil Protection Department has issued a weather alert that
forecasts gale-force winds in Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany,
Marche, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia,
Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily, Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont and the
autonomous province of Bolzano.
The warning also forecasts rain and thunderstorms, locally very
intense and accompanied by lightning, hailstorms and strong
gusts of wind, in Campania, Basilicata and Calabria.
Ferries to Elba and the Bay of Naples islands were stopped by
high seas Wednesday, while a state highway in Marche was closed
for the risk of trees being blown down. (ANSA).
