House approves majority resolution on Ukraine support

With 195 votes in favour, 50 against and 55 abstentions

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 10 - The Lower House on Wednesday approved a majority resolution committing the government to "continue to support the Ukrainian government authorities also through the transfer of means, materials and military equipment, in line with the commitments made and with further agreements in the frameworks of NATO and EU, as well as in the international fora to which Italy belongs".
    The resolution was approved with 195 votes in favour, 50 against and 55 abstentions.
    The vote came after Defence Minister Guido Crosetto briefed lawmakers on the decision taken by the government of Premier Giorgia Meloni to extend by a further year military aid to Kyiv n the war sparked by the Russian invasion in February 2022.
    Crosetto told the House Italy's "support to Ukraine remains strong and totally unchanged", adding however that "it seems the moment has come for incisive diplomatic action alongside the aid we are providing because there is a series of important signals coming from both sides". (ANSA).
