(ANSA) - Catania, December 16 - Catania airport remained closed early on Monday after the authorities in Sicily shut traffic to and from it due to eruptions on nearby Mount Etna. A smaller airport in the town of Comiso was also closed even though the eruptions only concerned a part of the volcano, due to fears ash could enter aircraft engines and cause malfunctions. Dozens of flights have been cancelled, while eight incoming flights to Catania were diverted to Palermo on Sunday.
