(ANSA) - Turin, December 16 - As many as 35% of young Italians say they have had episodes of "binge" drinking of alcohol, but statistics released Monday suggested they are less likely to drink to get drunk than their peers in other parts of Europe. The research, presented at the University of Turin, found that as many as 13% of young people said they have become drunk while 35.5% reported episodes of binge drinking. The survey was based on a sample of 134 people aged 15 to 17 and 22 to 24 in three cities, Turin, Rome and Salerno. Researchers concluded that among Italian youth, excessive drinking and drunkenness have a negative connotation.
