(ANSA) - Vatican City, December 18 - Representatives of Pope Francis's favourite soccer team presented him Wednesday with their championship trophy plus a blue and red club jersey emblazoned with his name. The pope shook hands with the small delegation of players and staff from the San Lorenzo de Almagro club, which won the Argentine league championship on Sunday and flew soon afterwards to bring their championship trophy to the pope, an ardent fan of soccer and of this team in particular. Francis, the former archbishop of Buenos Aires, congratulated the team on the win as he accepted the jersey with the title "Francis Champion" on the back. Earlier the pope, who is the team's chaplain, greeted the delegation in Spanish during his general audience in St. Peter's Square.
