(ANSA) - Vatican City, December 18 - Pope Francis greeted his favourite soccer team from Argentina during his general audience Wednesday in St. Peter's Square. "I salute the team of San Lorenzo who won the Argentine championship and has brought the (trophy) here," the pope said in Spanish. Francis, the former archbishop of Buenos Aires, is well known as a committed soccer fan intensely loyal to his favourite team, Argentina's San Lorenzo de Almagro. A delegation of six players and managers from San Lorenzo, which on Sunday won the Argentine league title, travelled to Rome to present the pope with their recent league championship trophy. During Wednesday's general audience, the last of 2013, the pope was greet by a dove released by some of the faithful. It perched on his jeep as he made a tour of St. Peter's Square.
