Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC)
anti-racism advisor Fiona May will attend a friendly
Italy-Netherlands match in Bari as ex-Juve coach Antonio Conte
makes his debut on the Azzurri bench Thursday.
The retired Italian Olympic medalist and former long jump
world champion will meet there with newly elected FIGC President
Carlo Tavecchio, who caused a huge racism row with his comments
about "banana-eating" non-EU players just before being elected
to lead Italy's soccer federation in August.
"My first objective is to defeat the animosity within our
soccer culture, which I think comes from fear," May said.
"Everyone must be involved, from schools to Serie A".
