The first book in Jeff Kinney's
popular children's series Diary of a Wimpy Kid is to appear in
Latin, Italian publisher Il Castoro said Tuesday.
The special edition titled 'Commentarii de Inepto Puero'
has been curated by Latinist Monsignor Daniel B. Gallagher of
the Vatican Office for Latin Letter, curator of Pope Francis'
Twitter profile in Latin.
"I hope we are able to give a copy to Pope Francis. His
Latin is very good and he will certainly enjoy it," Monsignor
Gallagher said.
The book in Latin will be released in Italy on May 6 and
then in the rest of Europe with a print run of 10,000 copies.
Distribution in the US and the rest of the world will begin
in September.
"I hope this is a more attractive way than others of
approaching Latin," author Kinney said.
The first book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series was
published in 2007 and since then a further eight books have been
released.
The series has sold over 150 million copies worldwide and
been translated into 44 languages.
