Deputy Prime Minister and
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Monday that he refused to
be a guest on talk shows run by "Communists like Fabio Fazio,
who have Rolexes paid for by Italians".
The minister was speaking in Aversa (Caserta), where he was
taking part in an event to support mayoral candidate Gianluca
Golia.
Salvini added that he had been invited and added that "if
they halve his salary, then we will talk".
On Italian television for decades, Fazio presents one of
RAI's flagship programmes, "Che Tempo Che Fà".
Criticism from across the political spectrum raged in Italy
two years ago over a sky-high salary granted to Fazio.
