Italy on Monday marked a year since
the start of its COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
On December 27, 2020, the jab campaign started at Italy's
premier infectious disease hospital, the Spallanzani Institute
in Rome.
After 12 months, over 108 million doses have been administered
and some 47,947,263 Italians have received at lest the first
jab, 88.7% of the over 12s.
In the last month the numbers of June and July have almost been
reached again, with almost 3.7 million jabs between December 13
and 19.
The number of booster jabs given has now reached 17,193,238.
Some 55.46% of the population eligible for a follow-up jab has
been reached, according to the latest data.
But there are still more than 5.6 million Italians over the age
of 12 without any COVID-19 coverage.
Children began getting the first jab 10 days ago and now some
168,041 of five-to-11-year-olds have been vaccinated.
